Have you ever heard of something called human resource management (HRM)? If yes and you aren't quite sure about what it is then this post is for you.
As you may remember from the definition of organization that an organization is consisting of people who are working together for achieving organizational goals. It is demonstrating that an organization is nothing without people. Hence, taking care of people is extremely crucial. Human resource management is all about taking care of the individuals and managing them.
Definition
Human resource management is the procedure of acquiring, training, appraising, and compensating employees and of attending to their labor relations, health and safety and fairness concerns.
This is related with the staffing/leading functions of the management.
Meaning of the terms in the definition
Acquiring is referred to the hiring of the employees (the whole procedure)
Training is the procedure of development of skills among the employees
Appraising is to appraise the individuals in terms of some financial or non financial benefit
Compensating is to compensate an employee for an overtime or extra work load
Labor relations is usually linked with matters including employees and their behavior in the work place. It includes counseling, investigations, disciplinary action, mediation and so on. This is done for facilitating a harmonious work environment while protecting the rights of the employees.
Fairness concerns is to make sure that employees are treated fairly and all the decisions are fair and just.
In a nutshell Human Resource Management is all about handling, controlling and managing the individuals and their actions within the workplace while providing them their rights and using fair means in dealing with the issues that arise within the organization.
Importance of Human Resource Management
People are extremely crucial for any organization without people an organization can not operate but they are complex and they have various needs. A machine doesn't need much it isn't involving emotions or any intellectualism, an organization operates a machine however they want but it can't be done with people. In addition to that an organization is having a number of individuals working together which also brings conflicts, disputes and other issues within the people. This makes it crucial for a company/organization or firm to have an adequate human resource department who can solve all the issues of the people and allow them to work effectively.
It also allows them to avoid various issues including wrong hiring, high turnover, wasting time in useless interviews or conflicts and so on. In addition to that it makes an organization more effective and efficient. This allows the people of an organization to work together for a mutual goal without wasting a lot of time in various disputes and conflicts.
